Chapter History

On May 22, 1937, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chartered the Beta Theta Chapter, a mixed (collegiate and alumnae) chapter.  The chapter was eventually dissolved with the formation of The Phoenix Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter as the 426th chapter of the Sorority on May 11, 1972.

On May 12, 1972, the Phoenix Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter established the Iota Kappa Chapter, which continues to exist on the campus of Arizona State University.

While located in Phoenix, Arizona, The Phoenix Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter serves every city in the county of Maricopa, Arizona, the fourth largest county in the country.

The Phoenix Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter has over 100 members, and continues to grow.   The Chapter has been recognized at the Regional and National levels for reclamation, community service, social action, and innovative programs.  The public service activities and events facilitated by the Chapter provide opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds to share common experiences.  The Chapter has a lifetime membership with the NAACP and is a member of the NPHC (National Pan Hellenic Council-Phoenix Chapter).  The Phoenix Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter partners with many organizations in Maricopa County, and is regarded as  one of the most respected organizations in the state of Arizona.
